PRACTICAL LOVE IN THE HOME (4)
Dear Reader,
God designed marriage and family for love, joy, peace, pleasure and prosperity. Lack of love is responsible for most of the crises in the home. Love is a vital key that unlocks all other blessings of marriage. In other words, when love is given expression in the home, there will be joy, peace, etc.
As I have said, time and again, love is not love until it is expressed. The important issue that will be addressed in this week’s article, therefore, is How to express your love to your spouse by your actions.
Loving By Action
Someone rightly said, “Action speaks louder than words.” There’s a place for words, but there is also a place for action. Lending a helping hand and being available makes a lot of difference in relationships. They are ways of saying, “I care.” Someone once said that it can be quite frustrating for a woman to be doing the housework, while the man just sits in front of the television enjoying a game of football and from time to time turn around to say to the tired and worn-out woman, “I love you dear.”She knows you love her; at least you have said so. But take a step and help her by doing your fair share of household chores; it adds credence to your words!
Here is a testimony of a brother who put this wisdom to use: “When Bishop Oyedepo’s wife taught us the course, Family Life at the Word of Faith Bible School, one would have thought she had secretly conducted a research on me. This was because every aspect of the lecture was directed at me, positively or negatively! After the second day of the course, I got home and saw that my wife had to carry 20 crates of soft drinks down the road, while she was at the same time getting dinner ready. Unknown to her, I packed all the crates into my car and took them there for her. When I got home, behold, my wife was at the door, and seeing that I had packed all the crates down the road, she started singing and dancing! Children of God, that was all the service I needed to have rendered in my family. Since then, it has been tranquility, joy and peace galore!” –David, D.
Touching
Sometimes, a touch speaks just as much as words. It communicates, “I am with you.” It keeps the fire burning all the time. Husband and wife, study to be romantic. Couples are to be “ravished” by each other’s love! God’s Word says: … Be thou ravished always with her love(Proverbs 5:19). “Ravished” means transported by delight. It will work wonders in your family!
Giving
God so loved the world and He gave His Son! If you claim to love, it must find expression in your giving. A thoughtful little gift at the right time, can work wonders! You must make it a point of duty to remember special days such as birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions to share the joy of the moment by exchanging gifts. These were the things you did while in courtship; you should not let them slip by, just because you are now married.
Husband, there may be times when your wife is down physically. Remember “love is medicine.”At such times, all you need to do is to show a little more love and she will be okay! Some kind words, a little physical touch, some kisses or a little gift from you will do the magic! You can use the time you would have spent at the doctor’s office, to demonstrate your love to her and you wouldn’t have to spend money on drugs.
I will never forget an experience I had some years back. I was down physically and my husband went out one of those days and came back with a little beautifully wrapped gift. He personally presented it to me, expressing his love for me. Could you believe that little act of love from him, brought me health and I never needed any medication? Many years have passed, but I still keep the gift, well preserved till today. There is no woman who hates to be loved! Wives, don’t take your husband for granted and say, “He knows I don’t earn money.” A kiss or a little gift from you, will constantly go a long way to express your love for him.
The love of God can only find expression through you, when you are a born-again child of God. This is done by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. If you are ready for this new birth experience, please say this prayer:
“Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”
If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
