There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18, NIV).
When Jesus came to earth, He ushered in a change from the old covenant, based on following the Law out of fear, to the new covenant, based on obedience out of love. In the Old Testament, we read about the fear of the Lord, but Jesus is love personified. He has freed us from fear, condemnation, and punishment.
